From the hidden history of Vigil

Vigil

The world you know is the version that survived the report.

For centuries, Vigil has monitored the creatures, phenomena, and impossible threats hidden inside the modern world. Most people will never know what was prevented, contained, or quietly erased.

The work is secret. The cost is permanent.

The first cost

To enter Vigil is to disappear from the life you had before.

The organization

Older than borders. Hidden inside history.

Every legend began as an incident. Every incident left a witness.

Vigil exists because the impossible has never been rare. It has only been concealed.

Its agents move through the gaps between official reports and public memory. They enter places everyone else has abandoned, confront what should not exist, and carry home truths the ordinary world was never meant to hold.

Some hunt. Some translate old warnings. Some protect safe houses or remember names that history has deliberately lost. All of them surrender a former life before their first assignment begins.

Vigil saves people who will never know they were in danger. Its agents live with everything those people are allowed to forget.

The price of Vigil

The organization does not recruit a person without erasing something first.

I

Your Name

Official records close. Former connections become liabilities. The person who enters Vigil may already be dead to the outside world.

II

Your Certainty

Orders arrive incomplete. Archives contradict memory. Even trusted handlers know more than they are willing to reveal.

III

Your Trust

The creatures outside Vigil are dangerous. The people deciding which truths an agent may know can be worse.

What waits in the dark

The old stories were never merely stories.

Every culture remembered something. The names changed, the warnings blurred, and the creatures learned to live inside disbelief.

Shifter bloodlines

Werewolves

Predatory shifters whose biology, loyalties, and methods vary by bloodline. Silver is not a solution.

Nightborn

Vampires

Long-lived hunters whose greatest advantage is not strength, but their ability to hide inside human systems.

Intrusive entities

Possessors

Intrusive entities capable of occupying, influencing, or hollowing out a living host.

Returned dead

Revenants

The dead returned with purpose intact, memory damaged, and no obligation to remain human.

Identity thieves

Skinchangers

Mimics that borrow identity as easily as appearance. Recognition is often delayed until replacement is complete.

Beyond classification

Ancient Things

Presences that predate useful classification. Direct engagement is discouraged. Survival is considered sufficient.

Dead Run

She was sent to erase the truth. The truth does not fit.

Vigil agent Kit is sent to Mercy Ridge to contain a werewolf outbreak. The mission should be simple: find the pack, stop the bloodshed, and erase the evidence. Instead, she discovers that someone inside Vigil may have designed the operation to fail.
