I write supernatural thrillers, intimate ghost stories, historical fiction, haunted history, and adventures for younger readers. Different shelves, different worlds, but always the same question: what lies just beyond the familiar?
I grew up in a haunted house. I never learned to believe that the ordinary world was the whole story.
My story
The strange has always felt close.
Long before I wrote about haunted places, I was trying to understand one.
Growing up in a haunted house did not give me answers. It gave me an imagination shaped by unanswered questions, half-heard stories, and the feeling that every room might hold more than it revealed.
I was drawn early to history and folklore, especially the places where documented events become local legends and where memory changes with each retelling. Savannah, with its layered past and stories pressed into nearly every street, became both home and an endless source of inspiration.
In 2011, I founded Haunted Savannah Tours. That work eventually grew into Destination Ghost Tours, but the greatest influence it had on my writing was human. Night after night, I saw how people respond to fear, mystery, grief, humor, and the possibility that the world may be stranger than they believed.
Those ideas now appear in very different forms. Dead Run opens the hidden world of Vigil. The Mortician's Friends approaches grief through a quiet and uncertain haunting. My haunted-history work searches for the people beneath familiar legends. Under the name C L Allen, I write mysteries and adventures for younger readers, including stories that are frightening and others that simply begin with something wonderfully strange.
I do not believe the supernatural matters merely because it is supernatural. It matters because of what it reveals about the people who encounter it: what they fear, what they have lost, what they are willing to believe, and what they will do when the ordinary world stops behaving as it should.
